Striving for Sustainability in 2025

The hospitality industry is under increasing pressure to become greener – and the race to Net Zero is accelerating. For luxury hotels and spas, that means every supplier must step up. Towels and robes may seem like a small detail, but they can have a surprisingly large environmental footprint.
At BC SoftWear, we’re helping our customers reduce their impact – not just through product innovation, but across the entire supply chain.
“There is no Planet B, and every small change we help the hospitality sector make now will have lasting positive impacts,” says Barbara Cooke, founder and CEO of BC SoftWear. “It’s our responsibility to lead by example.”
Sustainability at Every Stage
We’ve redefined our approach from the ground up – literally. A growing proportion of the cotton used in our towels, robes and spa linens is now sourced in Turkey, significantly reducing transport-related emissions compared to previous years. By sourcing closer to our production base, we’ve managed to cut transport-related emissions.
Powered by Clean Energy
Our Turkish factory is a model for low-impact production. Solar panels – installed both on rooftops and in surrounding fields – power operations, helping prevent 20,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Natural gas consumption is down by 2.5m³ a year.
The facility also includes a biological water treatment plant capable of processing 3,500 tonnes of wastewater per day. Cooling water from dyeing machines is reused, saving an additional 220 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Smarter Water Use
Our suppliers updated rinsing systems reduce water usage per kilogram of cotton from 120 litres to just 46 – a 60% saving. Overall, the factory has cut carbon emissions by 15%, and continues to improve efficiency year after year.
Energy-Saving Product Ranges
The final products are just as eco-conscious. Our SupremeSoft range uses up to 70% less energy and 10% less water during laundering, thanks to a unique polyester-cotton blend that dries 31% faster than traditional robes and towels.
Meanwhile, our SmartKnit range uses knitted technology rather than traditional weave, resulting in snag-free towels with increased longevity – ideal for hotels that launder in-house.
“These are vital considerations for any hotel serious about sustainability,” says Cooke. “We offer something more efficient – but still high-end.”

Closing the Loop: Circular Thinking
End-of-life is just as important. That’s why we’ve partnered with Reskinned, who help us turn unfit-for-use towels and spa linens into recycled yarn – supporting the circular economy and reducing landfill waste.
“We’re proud to support a sustainable future from start to finish,” says Cooke.
