Throwaway culture this Christmas

“Hotels and spas increasingly have sustainability at the forefront of their operations, but complimentary slippers – which remain a hotel and spa staple – are one of the aspects of the leisure experience that cannot easily be recycled or reused,” says Barbara Cooke, CEO of BC SoftWear. “Once slippers have been used, for hygiene reasons it’s not appropriate or desirable for other guests to then use them. So, from an environmental perspective, it’s far preferable for hotels to do all they can to encourage guests to take slippers home.”
One way to do this is to offer personalised embroidered slippers for guests staying over the festive period. An innovative in-room offering for seasonal guests can also help make their stay more memorable and add an incentive to return.
“Increasingly hotels are offering guests staying over Christmas a luxury personalised gift,” says Cooke. “Customising slippers not only encourages guests to take them home and use them until the end of their life, it also adds a unique extra touch. It’s the little extras like this that give hotels an advantage during the competitive festive season. This gesture lasts in the guests’ memory for so much longer than a bottle of champagne or flowers.”
BC SoftWear can offer VIP customised embroidery on its slippers, as well as robes and towels. It also offers custom-embroidered labels for all its robes and towels. BC SoftWear’s hooded children’s robes, in either Comfy 100% cotton towelling or Fleece, come in every size from age two to 11, and can also be completely personalised. BC SoftWear does all its embroidery in-house, allowing the creation of something entirely distinctive for every property it works with.
“It’s these little extras touches that stay with guests long after their Christmas break is over and ensure they continue to talk about the property in the months to come,” says Cooke.
